What Is a Precinct & Which One Am I In?
What is a Precinct?
A precinct is the basic administrative electoral district. There are 441 precincts in Johnson County.
Precinct boundaries are established so that they lie entirely within a city and township, that is, no precinct spans a city or township line. Precincts are the building blocks used to create senate, house, and county commissioner districts and city wards.
What is a Ward?
The larger cities in Johnson County designate wards, i.e., groups of precincts, to organize the voting for city council members.
What Precinct Am I In?
To determine your precinct, click on the Johnson County Election Commission web site [click here] and go to "Voter Lookup."
You can see a map of your precinct by going to the [Official Map] at the Johnson County Election Office website. (Go to the link for ward and precinct boundaries). Magnify the map until you can see where you live.
Each precinct is identified by a four-figure code. The first figure is either a letter (indicating a city) or a number (indicating a township). The second figure is a number representing the ward, a "0" indicates there is no ward. The third and fourth figures are numbers indicating the precinct. For instance, H306 means City of Leawood, Ward 3, Precinct 6.
